    • Hello David and thank you for your comment! I appreciate your reminder to place James 2:24, which our sign quotes verbatim, within the larger context of the Bible as a whole. Reconciling the words of James, Paul, and others on the topic of faith and works is important, as all scripture is inspired by God and will not contradict itself when understood in context. We reject any notion that man can merit his own salvation by works. As Paul also says, we are saved “not as a result of works, that no one may boast.” But we also reject human theologies that would separate works from faith out of an anxiety to avoid the appearances of “works-based righteousness.” After all, Jesus Himself describes a scene of judgment day in great detail in Matthew 25, and provides the activities of feeding the hungry and thirsty, caring for the stranger, clothing the naked, visiting the sick and imprisoned as criteria for the final judgment. Jesus did not thereby declare that works earn us our salvation, but He certainly indicated that we will be “judged according to your deeds,” a phrase that appears throughout the New Testament, https://bible.knowing-jesus.com/topics/Judgment-According-To-Works. It is far too easy for many in our world today to call Jesus “Lord, Lord” without doing what He has commanded, and we want to warn against that. Thanks again for expressing concern and opening a dialogue. Reach out to me at any time here on our website or at my email: alanwaynecantrell@gmail.com if you would like to discuss more.
